Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can the starting letter of a word be repeated within the same word?
Yes. The starting letter can be repeated anywhere within the word.
For example, if your word starts with S, words like SENSE or SASSY are completely valid. There’s no limit on how many times the starting letter can appear.
2. What is a “chosen letter”?
For each word you form, you must select exactly one letter from today’s word to help build that word. This letter is called the chosen letter.
For example, if today’s word is CRUSH and your first word starts with C, you might choose the letter R from CRUSH. If the word you form is CRIED, then R is your chosen letter for that word.
The chosen letter can appear anywhere in the word and can be repeated multiple times. What matters is that it is the only letter from today’s word used in that specific word.
3. Why is it called Variants?
Each of the five words you form is considered a Variant of today’s word.
Rather than guessing a single solution, you’re creating five different word variations based on the same source word, each with its own constraints. Together, those five Variants make up your solution for the day.
